The Brief
Workshop
Make a Scene is a beginner-friendly burlesque workshop for anyone curious about exploring sensuality, self-expression, and performance. No dance or burlesque experience is required. Experienced dancers and performers will enjoy plenty of playful space to expand and explore their craft.
Led by sensual dance performer NiQi il LUST, the two-hour workshop explores tapping into your creativity, expression, and power. Through movement, theatricality, and play, participants will build confidence, cultivate presence, and discover practical tools for captivating an audience.
The workshop is structured in three acts:
PRESENCE — I feel myself
We begin by dropping into our internal space with sensual yogic movement to connect with our bodies, senses, emotions, and the music, creating a foundation of embodied presence and moving with intention.
PLAY — I express myself
We will open up and experiment with animals, archetypes, emotion, and physical storytelling to discover different ways of moving, expressing, and inhabiting a character.
POWER — I invite you into my world
We will expand out and learn to connect with the audience, command attention, and the art of building tension and releasing it to an explosion of applause!
Finally, we'll bring it all together in a fun, low-pressure micro-performance, giving everyone the opportunity to step onto the stage and MAKE A SCENE.
Logistics
Participants are recommended to:
Wear clothing they feel comfortable moving around in and being on the floor, knee pads could be a good option
Bring items of clothing they want to play with taking off: hat, gloves, shirts, etc. (note: these are merely for practice purposes, we will not do any strip teasing)
Bring water - hydration is 90% of performance!
ABOUT YOUR TEACHER:
Esoteric and erotic, NiQi il LUST will open your third eye with her sensual blend of neo-burlesque, athleticism and mystic storytelling. Having studied the dark arts of burlesque from Miss Indigo Blues Academy of Burlesque in Seattle, NiQi now roams the Jungian jungles of our unconscious minds and takes many forms as she traverses our wildest dreams. Prepare yourself for mystery and mayhem, chaos and creation, illusion and illumination.
