Class policies & FAQ

The following policies pertain to the Bandit Theater Improv Training Program and Workshops

Theater-wide policies

Nondiscrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy (Updated September 2019)

Code of Conduct (Updated April 2019)

Attendance

Bandit Theater Improv Training Program classes meet once weekly for eight weeks. Students may not miss any more than two class sessions. Students that miss a third class session will be dropped from the class without a refund.

Please arrive on time and stay for the entire class. Arriving 30 minutes late or leaving 30 minutes early will count as an absence.

In the case of emergencies, health matters, and extreme weather, exceptions to our attendance policy can be made. Please reach out to your instructor if this applies to you.

Refunds

Students may cancel their class registration and request a refund up to one week prior to their class’ start date. Requests made after this one week cut-off will not be honored. If you have any questions about our refund policy or would like to request a refund, please email classes@bandittheater.org.

Class showcase

Improv Training Program classes conclude with a celebratory Class Showcase in which students are invited to perform and show off their improv skills for their friends. These are fun, supportive shows for a loving crowd.

These are also completely optional shows. Students are not required to attend or perform in the class showcase. Your class will teach you everything you need to know in order to perform, but if you’re still not feeling ready, that’s okay too!

Registration waitlists

If you wish to register for a class that is already full, you may sign up for that class’ waitlist. In the event a space becomes available in your requested class, you will be notified and given 24 hours to register.

Please email classes@bandittheater.org with your name, email, class name, and class meeting time to be added to the waitlist.

Enrolling in advanced classes

The Improv Training Program core curriculum is comprised of four courses: Improv 1 (You Are Enough), Improv 2 (Playing the Game Together), Improv 3 (The Math of Game), and Improv 4 (From Improv to Instinct). These classes are to be completed sequentially—Improv 1 must be completed before Improv 2 and so on.

Students that are dropped from a class for attendance reasons may not advance to the next class and must re-take their current class before moving on.

Reenrolling in previous classes

Students are welcome to reenroll in any class which they have already completed. There is no restriction on the number of classes any student may participate in, provided the schedules do not conflict.

Transfer Credit

Bandit Theater does not have a policy of placing students directly into our advanced classes. It is important to us that our students develop a shared language and understanding of longform improv mechanics together. We therefore politely request that all incoming students begin with Improv 1.

Limited space in Improv 2 is available for students who have completed the full longform curriculum at another theater and would like to focus on Game immediately. If that’s you, please send an email to classes@bandittheater.org with your name and a brief description of your education experience for permission to register.
